LUNCH TODAY:  MAC & CHEESE, MEXI PIZZA, CHICKEN & NOODLES

STUDENT NEWS:

  • Congratulations today’s trivia winner Jadyn Cahow!  The Dallas Cowboys had the NFL’s first professional cheerleading squad in 1972. Come to the office during lunch to collect your prize. Today’s trivia question: In what time zone is the state of Nevada?
  • Musical cast:  Rehearsal on Thursday and Friday this week will be ending at 4:30.  Please make your ride arrangements.
  • Congratulations to the students who have qualified for the first round of the Lefler Geography Bee.  The first round of competition will be Monday after school.  You will meet in B29, Ms. Boswell’s room.  Good luck to all of you.
  • The Book Fair will be open after school on today and Friday.  Don’t forget to check out the online sale!
  • Attention all those who help with recycling or who want to help – our baskets are full and need to be emptied. Please report to Mrs. Barry in C-24 today after school for Recycling.

  • Have you reserved your yearbook yet?  There is still time.  Bring $17 tomorrow and during lunch you can reserve your copy!
  • Lambda Theta Nu Sorority is hosting their annual Latina Youth Leadership conference to promote academic excellence among middle school girls.  If you are interested in attending this event, please see Ms. Bomberger in the counseling center for a registration form.  Forms need to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned by Tuesday, December 4th.

STUDENT NEWS:

  • No one had the correct trivia question today.  The 84th & O Drive-In movie theatre was located at 84th and O streets.  Correction on yesterday’s trivia question.  A boll weevil is a type of beetle.  With that being said, we do have a winner.  Congratulations Isaac Back!  Come to the office during lunch to collect your prize.   • No one had the correct trivia question.  The answer:  The insect statue in Enterprise, Alabama is of a boll weevil, which is believed to be the only monument to an insect pest in the world. Today trivia question:  What Lincoln city landmark was located at 84th and O streets (it is no longer there)?  It opened on July 1, 1954 and thought to have closed in 1989.

STUDENT NEWS:

  • Welcome Back!  Today trivia question:  Enterprise, Alabama has a famous statue of a woman holding an insect.  What is the insect?
  • Hope you all did a lot of reading over break.  If you haven’t logged your final set of minutes, please visit the library today during lunch or after school to complete your final logging.  Tomorrow will be the final day to log minutes.  Who’s going to win the lunch party?

The deadline for getting reservations for Family Night is here.  We will take reservations until 8:00 tomorrow morning.  Don’t miss out on the fun!

  • There will be 8th grade girls’ basketball practice today after school.

STUDENT NEWS:

  • Again, no winners from yesterday’s trivia question.  The answer:  The Chicago Tribune had the inaccurate headline. Lefler trivia will continue after the holiday.
  • Looks like the class of 2018 is on track to win the lunch party!  Who can derail them?  Will it be the class of 2017 or 2019?  Take home those bookmarks and record all of the minutes you read over the long weekend.  You can log your minutes from home this weekend or log them at school on Monday.  We will run the final tally at the end of the day on Monday.  Will we meet our 100,000 minutes?

Reminder:  Family Night is next Tuesday and we must have a count for dinner.  Have your parents call or email if your family will be coming, before we sell out.

  • No winners from yesterday’s trivia question.  The answer: “Good, better, best.  Never let it rest, until your good is better, and your better is best.”  Today’s trivia:  “Dewey Defeats Truman” was an inaccurate headline on what national newspaper in the 1948 presidential election?
  • Want to see several of your teachers compete in a Fear Factor event?  This will happen if and only if we can reach 100,000 minutes read by November 25th.  Want to see your English teachers face-off for a Jell-O eating competition?  This will happen at the lunch party for the winning class.  Keep reading and logging your minutes!

Don’t forget to talk to your parents about Family Night next Tuesday.  The Uphill Battle, the All-Star Challenge, Scene It, and the Lefler Book Fair await those who are brave enough to attend.  Get your RSVP into the office soon before we sell out.

  • Hey all you Lefler readers.  Don’t forget to log your reading minutes between now and November 25th.  Right now the class of 2018 is in the lead with 3,170 minutes logged.  Do you want them to earn the lunch party?  Keep reading and watch the team tallies grow on the signs in the cafeteria.

Want to win the Great Popsicle Stick Challenge?  Think you can master Roller Ball?  Come to the second annual Language Arts Family Night to find out.  Bring your family and enjoy games, contests and activities as you create your very own all-star story.  The event takes place next Tuesday (November 27) from 6:00-8:00 p.m. here at Lefler.  Dinner will also be provided.  This is a family event and all students must attend with their family.  We also need families to RSVP to the office so we have a count for dinner.  Flyers are available in the main office and the Counseling Office.
