& Consumer Science
The
focus of Family and Consumer Sciences programs is the family,
self, others, and related careers. It provides students with
the opportunity to become knowledgeable about themselves and
others so they can make responsible decisions, interact effectively,
and prepare for occupations. Management and consumer skills
are included in all courses.

8th graders in Family and Consumer Science (FCS) class.
6th
grade FCS
6th
grade FCS students focus on ideas and skills to strengthen self,
family, and the quality of life for all people. Students explore
and apply life management skills to needs at home and within
the community. Concepts studied include foods, nutrition and
wellness, sewing, and care giving relationships.
7th grade Exploratory FCS
This
9-week class provides students with the opportunity to explore
the area of Family and Consumer Sciences. Curriculum in this
class relates to learning skills that will enable students to
share in family responsibilities now, as well as prepare them
to be responsible for themselves and others in the future.
Students
in this class work on beginning activities related to clothing
care, use of sewing machine, and serger., hand stitching, growth
and development of infants and children, safety and sanitation
in food preparation, measuring and following a recipe, and making
healthy nutritional decisions.

FCS-
Individualized
This
8th grade course is designed to expose students to a variety
of learning's in the areas of Resource Management, Being an
Individual, Families and Friends, Care giving and Child development,
Food and Nutrition,and Clothing and Living Spaces. Students
divide their class time between individualized and group learning
activities.
Students organize their learning experiences by using a calendar
system. They are responsible for planning and managing their
resources wisely, including those designated for a food budget
lesson. The emphasis of this class is on practicing management
skills, cooperation, and responsibility.
